MetroLand is AppGallery’s latest must-download game (2024)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock since the dawn of the App Store, you’ll probably have heard about Subway Surfers. Co-developed and published by Kiloo between 2012-2020, Subway Surfers has been a permanent fixture in “most downloaded mobile game” lists for years, thanks to its easy-to-grasp gameplay and bright, colourful graphics.

Enter MetroLand. This new endless runner from Kiloo takes what you know and love about the classic endless runner and turns it up to 11, introducing a new, futuristic environment to run through, a new cast of characters to unlock and play with, and heaps of new stuff to do so that every run you embark on feels fresh. The game constantly lets you work towards new unlocks and rewards, so there’s always a reason to jump back in and play.

MetroLand has just launched on AppGallery for free, so we’re taking a look at some of the ways in which the game expands on its predecessors and tweaks the gameplay for a new and different experience while still paying homage to the founding games of the genre.

Here’s what you can expect from MetroLand.

More than just running

Every game of MetroLand starts out the same – you annoy an authority figure (this time the evil MegaCorp), take off running, and go as far as you can before they catch you and take you down. It’s a similar setup to many of the classic games within the genre, but there’s more to do than just dashing off into the distance.

As you run, you can pick up Quest items, giving you a chance to earn a reward for pulling off certain activities. This can be as simple as running in one of the three lanes for a set number of steps, or slightly more complicated, like picking up a certain number of score boosts. Completing these tasks gives you points to level up in the Season Pass, which in turn gives you coins and Chips to help boost your abilities and keep your runs going for even longer, even if you crash.

Better yet, there’s a free version of the Season Pass that everyone gets access to, so these rewards come at no extra cost – though, naturally, if you decide to buy the pass you’ll gain even bigger rewards for each level you reach.

A place to stay

As you gain points in MetroLand, you’ll work your way through the game’s story, unlocking new locations and things to see and do. Hit the end of chapter 2, for example, and you’ll unlock the hideout, where you can go to upgrade powerups, unlock new missions, and craft items at the Workshop. Parts of the hideout will slowly be unlocked as your point total increases, so sticking with the game for longer will open up even more of the game than before.

It won’t be a tedious grind, however. You can level up your characters using tokens found on each run, which in turn adds to your overall score multiplier in each run. Before too long, your low-point runs will be soaring to massive numbers, as each step adds another five points to your total. With a small handful of characters to unlock and level up, there are plenty of opportunities to keep boosting this score multiplier and ensure that you’re powering through the story and constantly getting rewarded for your efforts.

And don’t worry if all you want to do is play a quick and easy game – MetroLand is still one of the simpler games you can get on AppGallery. Just know that if you want to get seriously in-depth with it, there’s room for you to do so.

A fresh vibe

MetroLand ditches the present day for something a bit more futuristic, and it makes the game feel much fresher for it. You’ll be dodging drones and corporate cops as you traverse the streets, picking up sci-fi shields and hacked drones to aid you on your journey. But there are spots of natural beauty too, whether you’re running through the gorgeous greenery of the park or the serene, ancient exhibits of the museum.

And this world isn’t static either. Kiloo will be updating MetroLand with new environments and vibes throughout the years to come, so you’ll never feel stuck in the same city for too long. Plus there are new character skins to come in future updates, so you can change up your crew’s style before each run.

Whether you want a quick pick-up-and-play game for a few minutes in your downtime, or a serious investment with rewards aplenty, MetroLand has got you covered. It’s easy to learn, but you’ll be coming back every day to upgrade your equipment and check out the new additions as they roll in. Grab it for free today on AppGallery and get running.
