Frequently Asked Questions
1. What do I need to bring to class?
A yoga mat, water, and a bath or beach size towel (for if your mat gets slippery). All of these things are available for use or purchase in our retail area. Please limit personal items; we have cubby holes for your convenience located in the lobby. For best results, come 24 hours hydrated and on an empty stomach.
2. What do I wear?
Wear something you like to work out in. We recommend leggings or shorts and a tank top or sports bra for ladies and shorts for men. Loose clothing can be uncomfortable but wearing a loose t-shirt is not prohibited. There are no shoes or socks required for any classes.
3. I’m new to yoga; what class should I take?
4. What if I’m not flexible?
Flexibility is something yoga gives you; you don’t have to be flexible to start practicing. Sitting in place for long periods of time during the work week, or engaging in constant repetitive motions, causes your muscles to shorten. In these yoga classes, we will cycle through a variety of different movements, allowing your muscles to lengthen and stretch.
5. What are the benefits of yoga?
There are countless benefits to yoga, including stress reduction, increased blood circulation, flexibility, strength, improved sleep patterns, and relaxation. A regular practice of yoga (at least three times a week) can reduce the symptoms of many chronic diseases (e.g. artritis, diabetes, and thyroid disorders).
We are honored to be part of the Sioux Falls yoga community.
Santosha Hot Yoga (SHY) is located on 57th Street, between Louise and Western Avenue, home to a variety of classes to fit all goals and lifestyles. With two beautiful, spacious studios; we pride ourselves in being a place for growth and discovery.
SHY opened in 2011 with one studio teaching only the traditional Hot Yoga series of 26 poses and two breathing exercises. The original studio maintains a temperature between 92° - 108°F. We have since expanded to two studios in one convenient location! The second studio maintains a cooler temperature between 75° - 90°F.
Our welcoming community of all levels is maintained by a highly trained staff who is encouraged to embrace their individual styles of teaching. We encourage students to explore the different class variations. We offer many different styles from quiet and soothing, to deeply intense, all the way to a solid cardio flow. We believe in you long before you ever step on your mat. With a little patience and persistence, things you never thought possible can happen.
